How Do You Respond When Life Isn’t Going the Way You Hoped It Would?

Updated: Oct 22, 2020

Repeat after me:

I am angry.

I am disappointed.

I am hurting.

It was never supposed to be this way.

Now breathe…. (take deep breaths in and out).

I am here to remind you that it is okay.

It is okay to feel overwhelming emotions. You are human.

Know that I am right there with you.

Maybe you just received some bad news.

Maybe you are walking through healing and recovery from past trauma.

Or just maybe… you feel happy for those around you, but you cannot understand why the miracle has not happened for you yet.

It hurts…

Sometimes we can’t help but ask ourselves:

Does God still see me?

Does He love me?

Is He still going to come through for me?

These are some of the questions I have been wrestling with lately.

God can take our hurts, anger, and disappointment.

He already knows what we are thinking and feeling; He just wants us to come to Him with our weariness and broken hearts.

Somehow even with the pain and struggles, I know that He is still there. It is hard for us to see what He is doing, but there is no way He has forgotten about us.

So… what should we do now? How do we respond?

We Rest.

We rest in the truth of who He is instead of resting in what we think/feel.

We are not in control. He is.

As God works, let’s just enjoy the life God has graciously given us.

You are chosen.

You are loved.

And God sees you.

Lord, please lift up our weary heads.

Remind us of your unfailing love. We admit that we are angry and frustrated. We just don’t understand. I pray for restoration and healing as you mend our broken hearts. When the enemy comes with lies, we come against those lies with the Truth written in your Word. Give us strength and abundance of joy as we rest in you and allow you to do what only you can do. Have your way and give us eyes to see you in the midst of the chaos. We love you. And it is in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

We are in this together.
